History: Mourning Star was not originally a bad pony. In the beginning he was the first and only child of Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry. Twilight doted over her first born son, whom she named Morning Star (She thought Princess Celestia and Princess Luna would both like the name.) just like a new mother would. Showing him even at a young age what all her magic could do, promising him she'd teach him all she knows when he gets older. And thus, she did. Morning grew up with a massive love of Magic, and was entirely fascinated with the story about how his mother became an Alicorn. He made it his life goal to ascend just like this mother, and thus spent the majority of his life learning as much about every kind of magic he could get his hooves on to make his dream a reality. Sadly, as he got older, he never seemed to "get" the teachings of Friendship that his mother attempted to give him, and was often closed up in his room by himself, studying. (Much like a very similar lavender mare years in the past.) He never had the best relationship with his father, Flash Sentry, but the stallion was still proud of what his only son had accomplished regardless.

After getting his cutie mark while performing magic he'd recently been attempting, he figured that the new six-pointed star on his flank was proof that he was destined just like his mother. He threw himself even further into his studies. He didn't want to be an Alicorn after he became an old stallion, right? This left him to have a rather sharp tongue, on top of the level of stress he was putting himself through to try and better himself in magic. It was only after a forced visit with his family in the Crystal Kingdom that everything came crashing down.

On visiting with Princess Cadence, her husband Shining Armor, and their child Flurry Heart (now grown into her own adult mare), he found out that Flurry Heart never ascended at all. She was born an Alicorn. Morning Star felt cheated! Was it because his mother's choice of a Pegasus for his father that made him a single Unicorn? Was he not worthy? While Morning was still massively powerful as a Unicorn himself, he was still nothing compared to Flurry Heart's magic.

Morning fell into a depression not even his mother could force him out of. Slowly, as months wore on long after they had returned to Twilight's castle in Ponyville, that depression that Morning felt slowly grew into anger. This wasn't his fault. He'd done everything, read every book, done every spell he could find, and still he was stuck as a Unicorn. No, this was his mother's fault!

After a yelling argument with his mother, the last words he would mention to her before leaving the castle would be:
Just because you are my mother, that never made you my friend!

Years past, and no one could find the only son of Twilight Sparkle. What no-pony knew though, was that Morning had taken it upon himself to become an Alicorn at whatever cost. He was going to live forever, it was his birth right after all. It took him years, but he finally was able to cast magic similar to that of Tirek, the villain in one of his mother's stories. The idea of forcibly taking magic for himself, lead him to believe that with enough, he would ascend to Alicorn status that much quicker. He went on a rampage, stealing every piece of magic he could. And sadly, his mother just couldn't bring herself to fight her son. In the end, it was Flurry Heart, that was able to banish her cousin after having stripped and returned as much of the magic she could that he had siphoned off the other ponies of the public. It was rumored he was sent to the Bad Lands, though Flurry Heart herself could not even tell what her magic had actually done to him other than that she knew he still lived.

To this day, the public now knows him as Mourning Star, after how much he broke his mother's heart.

Character design was inspired by the Television Show: Lucifer (aka Lucifer 'Morningstar')
Though, Mourning Star is far more dark than the playful Lucifer in the show, heh.

Good day for a review and Foxx Swiftpaw is here to deliver a four part review. So without any further delay let's get started.
Vision: There is a lot of work and vision in this one and not to mention the bonus points for being the child of Twilight but to bad there is also negative points for having Flash Sentry as the father. So here I'd award it a 3.5 stars. Good job.
Originality: Major score here though docked some for who the father is. Nothing against Flash being a father just not of Twilight's child. And though it has been done by many but the artist does a great gob here and for that I give them 4.5 stars. Would have been five if it wasn't for the whole Flash and Twilight parentage.
Technique: Like always digital works gets negative points but with that said this one makes up for it with the Twilight connection and as well as the unique style. I'd have to say this is worth 3 stars.
Impact: Well all of those who know me know how much I love Twilight also knows how much of an impact I get from her. Well on top of that the background and history of this original character gives it a lot of personality and zeal. With that being said I'd give the artist 3.5 stars.
Overall this is a great piece and the artist put a lot of work into it and I can't wait to see what else they have to offer.
